BRIDGE EVENING AT HUTT
Tn order that the gross takings at the King George Theatre' on the night of tho forthcoming concert might be handed' over to the Eed.Cross Society, and to cover the expenses of production and hire of theatre, a spontaneous effort made by a ladies' committee consisting of Misses Duff (convener), Millington, Draper, Savage,: Leo, -and- Mesdames Strand and Upton, mot with a very fine response, when a bridge, patty was held last'weokin Miss Draper's studio. ■ .-■ The room was tastefully' decorated with beautiful blossoms, for Xvhich the valley is famous, and the attendance was as largo as the commodious building. would allow with comfort.
There were some 30 tables at bridge, in addition to a number of ''500" players. The venture was an unqualified success, the. net sum of && being raised. . An excellent, supper' was provided.
The Mayoress (Mrs. Andrews) commended the very fine' entertainment, and thanked all present for their attendance. .
r' Mrs. Mitchell, president' of the Red Cross Society, also .thanked the organisers and nil present, and especially mentioned Miss Draper;, through ■whoso courtesy .the studio-hai3 ; been ma"de available.: She explained that \ the' object of. these entertainments 'was to raise funds to provide a district nurse for the Hutt. For this there would be required from tho society ,the .sum of £80, to be subsidised by the Hospital Board, and {thus there would be no encroachment upon the Mayor's Belief Fund. ..■...-, ..■■'■■ " • ■'
