PARENTS' ASSOCIATION

The seventh annual' meeting of the jßongotai College Parents' i yas held on Thursday. In the annual fceport it was noted with pleasure that |the interest- and.,.generosity of tho parents had in no way diminished! Card evenings wore held during the year, and were genorally well attended. A dance arranged by- tho'association was instrumental in augmenting tho funds to the extent of £0 10_s. The grounds of tho college had'received much attention during the year, and were now becoming beautiful as well as useful: During the year tho association had spent £26 on this worlc. In dealing with ,the balance-sheet, 'the chairman (Mr. W. E. Burge) said that approximately £270 had' been raised during tho year- through the efforts of tho association. Of this sum over £200 had-'been donated-towards- ' $ho gymnasium fund.The, resignation of Mrs. Avery, exprcsident of the ladies' auxiliary, and a member of the executive 'of Wo association, was received- with regret. The principal of tho college. (Mr.. F. Martyn Benncr) said that since tho collogo had been'established 1127' boys had passed through his "Care.' Th6'total roll number last year was 561, and this Ifoar it was again over, COO.. .Tho. college's record in the examination field •was a proud one. Over 100 candidates Jiad sat for the proficiency' cxaniinaitton, and there had- • boon- .only one failure. Sixty-two per. cent., jii. tho matriculation candidates wore successful as against-an average of 35 per 'cent for the various schools and 'colleges. Mr. Eerincr, expressed the opinSon that tho universities -would .bo. burrlened with students who _ wcro, not [fitted for higher education as long as the matriculation examination was "held [without reference to the- principals of the schools and colleges'as to the suitaibility of tho b.oys and. girls, who ,had ■passed. Mr. Renner advocated' tjio'abolitioif of the university entrance'examination, and the.substitution- of reports on the candidates "iby the principals. - /.The following officers.were elected:— -President, Mr.\W.
