Directions'for making thesj two hats —the. one in macrame twine and the other in wool —are given this week by "Alicia." 'A smart note is given by the addition of a quill to match the frock with which, the hat is worn.
MAORAME TWINE HAT. Materials.—l ball* of fine maerame twine, 1 crochet hook, No. 12. Commence In centre of crown with 4 chain and join Into a ring. Ist round: 12 double crochet Into ring. 2nd round: • 2 double crochet in Ist stitch, Id. c. In next stitch, repeat from • to end of round. 3rd round: * 2 d. c. In.lst.stitch. 1 d. c. lv each of next 2 stitches, tepeat from • to end of round. 4th
round: »'2 d. c. In Ist stitch; Id.c. In each of next 3 stitches, repeated from • to end of round.
Continue increasing In this manner until you have 30 d. c. .'between each increase. Now work Id. c. in' each stitch for 3 rounds. 4th round: • Miss 1 stitch, Id. c. Into each of next 36 stitches, repeat from • to end of round. ' ■
• oth round: • Miss 1 stitch, 1 d. c. Into each of next 33. stitches,, repeat from * to end of round. Continue deeseaslng ln v this manner until your work measures the same around outer edge as your head measurement. Now work 1 d. c. In .each stitch for 3 rounds. Fasten off. Press well on wrong side. Pull into'shape and attach feather at side.
WOOLLEN HAT. Materials.—2oz 4-ply wool, one No, 12 .crochet hook. ' . .-. ■-
Commence in centre of crown with 4 chain. Join Into a ring. Work 12 double crochet Into the ring. ■
Ist round: • I double crochet In Ist stitch, 1 a. c. in next stitch. Repeat from • to end of round. 2nd round:,* 2 d. c. in Ist'stitch, 1 d. c. in'each of next 2 stitches. Repeat from • to-end of round. ' 3rd; round: • 3 d. c. in Ist stitch, 1 d. c. in each of next 3 stitches. Repent from • to end of round. Continue increasing in this manner until the outer edge of your work measure* the same us your head measurement. Now work 1 d. c. in each stitch to end of round. Repeat the last-round until your work measures about. DV4 inches from where you finished increasing. Fasten 6ft. • Arrange crown and feather as illustrated.
