Auctioned Engagement Ring
There was a quaint auction sale at a dinner in London not long ago. The only thing sold was a ring, (juite an ordinary ring, but it fetched £100. It was sold by auction at the Excelsior Philanthropic Society's dinner,'; and the £100 has gone to London Hospital. The former owner of the ring can1 have it back during the next six months if she wants it (states a correspondent). The ring -was given by a young man to his sweetheart in a Devonshire village. They were absolutely hjappy together until both went to London to get work, when things seemed to go wrong. The girl gave back her engagement ring, but the boy refused to take it, and then they agreed that lit should bo sold for the benefit of the London Hospitffl. Together they took it to the hospital to bo auctioned. The kindly man who bought the ring is holding it for six month's in case it is needed after all. ..,') ■ .". .
