According to advice received by the New Zealand ..Re r d-.Cross. - Society from the organising secretary; of the Indian Red , Cross: Society, temporarily at' Patna, Patna is a. hive of industry and las already recovered from :* its nerve-racking experiences on January 15." Most people are still living in 'tents' or in lower' stories of bungalows,,as: maiiy, of the upper stories are seriously..damaged, but all are doing their best to prepare to help the more seriously distressed areas. -V .
The Bihar., and Orissa Provincial Red Cross Committee has mapped out a relief programme which,' will need large funds to carry out. "All stores are being centralwed at.a relief .depot at the Hardiuge J?ark, Patna Junction. From this depot distributing centres have been opened at Bhagalpur, Muzaifarpur, Honghyr, Chapra,. Laheriaserai.vMbtiliari, and Sitamari. Ten thousand blankets have been ordered, and a further 10,000 have been sanctioned if required. A sum or 24,000 rupees has been allotted >y" the Red-Gross Committee to the collectors of affected districts for medical comforts, and a central- reserve fund'at IJatna -will—purchase all .goods which carihbt, be obtained locally.
