TURNBULL AND QUIST

In many respects Don Turnbull and Adrian Quist are a puzzling team, their tournament play being curiously uneven, writes "American Lawn Tennis." They were- magnificent' when ,they came from behind in the English championship and beat Vinos .and Glfidhill after the latter had won the first two sets. Then they had some trouble in beating Avory and Bitchie, and lost to the New Zealand pair, Andrews, and Stedraan, who played well but had no licence to beat the American-killers. At Long wood, later, Turnbull and .Quist had a narrow escape from becoming t.he American champions. They bowled over Allison and Van Byn, with some difficulty; and they carried- Lott and Stoefen, the champions-to-be, to 11-9 in the fifth set. It was the opinion of some good judgos of form that Turnbull and Quist ; wore the best team in the tournament and that they were unlucky not to win. ■ Their besetting sin in the semi-final match was the failure of both men to be at t ; heir peak at the same time.

In the Australian championships they reached tho final, when, after.a closely contested five-set match, they were defeated by Perry and Hughes..
