SALE TO CONTINENT A MONEY-DOWN BASIS (Special to tho "Evening Post.") NELSON, February 22. Mr. H. E. Stephens, chairman qf the New Zealand Fruit Board, announced today that the board had effected the sale of 210,000 cases to the Continent for this season, in the proportion of 40 per cent. .Stunners, 30 per cent. Dunns, 20 per cent. Jonathans, and 10 per cent, other varieties. Mr. Stephens said the exact price could iiot yet bo stated, as minor adjustments we... being made, but it was a satisfactory c.i.f. prico in English sterling, and the money would be put up before the fruit loft New Zealand. A circular with fuller details of the sale and tho allotments would be distributed to growers within a day or two. The first shipment for the Continent would bo loaded on about March 13. This season to date a total of 58,681 cases of apples have been sent forward from the Nelson district for export. Up to the same date last year the total was 47,426 cases, which indicates that the fruit is a little more forward in its development this season. At present the Mamari is in port, loading a direct shipment of 58,000 cases, and it is anticipated that the vessel's allotment will be completed by midday on Saturday. The Mamari, which will.take mainly the Cox Orange, Dunns, and Jonathan varieties, is scheduled to leave Wellington on March 3 and put the fruit on the London market' in the middle of April.
