NOTABLE EVENT

It wast a somewhat notable event in the history of Dunedin, as a shipping port when the Canadian Highlander recently left with a full cargo for discharge '.at. New York and Montreal, states the Dunedin "Star." An out-

standing feature of her loading was that she took no less than some 6000 bales of wool, which instead of having to be railed to Port Chalmers had all been dumped in. Dunedin,1 which naturally .afforded a good opportunity for local labour. It is specially noteworthy that it is at least thirty years since such a large quantity of wool has been loaded at Dunedin, and it was made possible by the fact that a dumping plant has been installed near the Victoria Wharf. The bulk of.the wool shipped was for transhipment at New York for Continental ports.
