MONOWAI'S TRIP
PROMINENT PASSENGERS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PUNEDIN, January 9. The Monowai arrived at Port iChalmers this morning from Melbourne, after cruising through Milford, Thompson, Doubtful, Breaksea, and Dusky Sounds. The passengers wero charmed with the outstanding beauty of the scenery.. Captain Davey said that the weather was delightful, and he was sure that when- the passengers returned to Aus: tralia they would lose no opportunity of praising the scenic attractions of the South Island. ' Of the 310 passengers 100 were for Dunedin and more than that number proceeded to Wellington, while a large number are making the round voj'age.
Prominent passengers on the MonOwai were Senator and Mrs. W. Plain, tho former a 'member' of the Federal Senate and'leader of the Scottish Delegation Party; Mr. J. A. Sloane, a -wellknown grazier in the Eiverina district,; who is accompanied by his son, Mr. P. G. Sloane; Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Mcllwrick, the former a well-known Melbourne solicitor and member of the Scottish Delegation Party; Professor and Mrs. T. B. Laby (for Wellington), of the Melbourne .University;..accompanied' by their daughters, Misses J. and D. Laby; Miss T. Officer (for Wellington), well known! in Melbourne society; Mr. A. S. Pearse (for : Wellington), director, General Motors Corporation; Mr. J. Spencer (round trip), associate director of- Myer Emporium, Ltd.; Mr. A. Cooch (round trip), gen-eral-manager of the State Savings Bank, Victoria;' Mr. A. Eowe, of Messrs. Douglas, Kowe, and Co., Melbourne, on a business and holiday trip to Wolling'ton; Councillor T. !S. Nettlefold, taking the round trip with his wife and daughter on holiday; Mr. and' Mrs. Marson, on transfer to Wellington for Messrs. Gilbert-Lodge' and Co.; Mr. and Mrs. 11. A. Lines,.of Wellington, returning to New Zealand; Professor McCallnm (professor of pathology at Melbourne University) proceeding to Wellington with his son; Miss Lumsden, daughter of Mr. D. Lumsdon, sec- . rotary of the Mount Lyelt Mining and Kailway Company, oh holiday to Milford Sound and round trip; Mr. W. A. Gray, principal of the Presbyterian Ladies' College, Melbourne, travelling with Mrs.' Gray on a holiday trip to the Dominion.
