CHRISTMAS GIFTS
Tho medical officer in charge' of the Makogai Leper Station (Dr. A. H. B. Pcarco) has written to the Cook Islands Department and to the Roy. Father Ileffernan, S.M.; Boulcott Street Presbytery, thanking a!l thoso who sent Christmas gifts for the 400 lepers on the island, 100 of whom are natives of tho Cook Islands and Samoa, New Zealand's dependencies in the South Pacific. Letters have been received from Cook Island patients acknowledging tho kindness of tho Trench nursing Sisters of tho. Order.of Mary, ! who devoted their lives to the care of sufferers from one of the most loathsome of diseases. Quite a number of the patients who were sent to Makogai when tho disease was at an early stage have been cured,' and have been returned to their island homes. Tho arrival of the Christmas gifts from Now Zealand is always tagcrly looked forward to by tho sufierers,- and the distribution of tho articles at Christmas gives much plcasuro to tho patients.
