RODING RIVER PROPOSAL

(Special to the "Evening Post.") NELSON, December 15. Nelson district local bodies interested in the question of a combined water supply for Nelson, Tahunanui, Stoke, and Richmond met in the City Council [Chambers last evening to consider a proposal by a private firm (tho Hume Pipe Co.) for tapping the Hoding River in Aniseed Valley and bringing the water through a tunnel in the hills at Poorman's Valley, Stoke. It is proposed by the company to provide water at a cost of 3d per 1000 gallons to the local bodies concerned, a sinking fund to be established for the ultimate ownership of the scheme by the people in forty years, or at any time prior to-that date thatHhe local bodies may decide. , The matter was fully discussed and the Nelson City Council's proposal for its own supply from the Boding River at another point was explained. The meeting decided that tho City Engineer submit a report on the two schemes. The general feeling of.the meeting was that a major scheme for the whole district should bs undertaken.
