MELBOURNE, December 12. A thief today smashed a window in the premises of Hardy Brothers, jewellers, Collins Street, and snatched seve^ ral trays of diamond rings worth thou-sands-of pounds. Ho escaped by running through different buildings and lanes. However, ho lost a number of valuable rings during his escape, some Of which were returned to the-owners.
