NEW YORK, December 3. An interesting repercussion of th* ' stand taken by the Gorernorof California (Mr. J; Kolph, jun.y in connection with the San Jose lynching, occurred today, when Dr.. Henry Darlington, rector of the Protestant Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Best,. New York, retracted his praise of lynching. , Dr. Darlington said he was sorry he praised Mr. Bblph's sentiments.. "It was the- result of being deeply stirred at,tho.time," he said. Dr. Darlington announced his changed ' stand at; the morning services after a 'group of, theological students had picketed the Church of the Heavenly Rest, denouncing the- rector's attitude. It was reported, last week: that Dr. Darlington had telegraphed Governor - Rolph his congratulations.. Dr. Darlington explained that he meant to commend tho change from public- indiffcr j ence to, visible expression.. Kidnapping must ba stopped. The remarks of Governor Rolph, which have- given rise to so much controversy, were to the effect that tho lynching'at San Joso of th» confessed, kidnappers and murderers of Brooke Hart should result in f ewe^ kidnappings throughout tho country.
