JUNIOR PARADE
A 2ZWS "ARMY" CHILDREN'S FAREVVELC : Genuine interest was taken by the children and ■ spectators in the event kn^wa >as "Wellington Junior on Parade," at the .Winter Show Grounds last Saturday A feature-of this was the parade, of the 2ZW Radio Army, in'platoon.formation, lined up on their Girl Guide markers for the tour of inspection -"fiy the aunts and uncles of 2ZW, '~ '.'[..■ The station personnel arrived in sepa* rate cars at two-minuto intervals, and, on alighting from their cars, received an ovation by the 650 children ,6i the Army and the 800 interested spectators.-' Each arrival and each aunt was announced on loud speakers by Captain Leo. •.'■ .-':'•■;..-.■. . '■•■' Some novel features wore .-staged in order to entertain the children, including a display of life-saving drill by the Maranui Life-Saying plnb, gymnastics by Mr. Jenkins's pupils,' wrestling match by Golliwog and Micky Mouse, described by Grandma Lola at the mioror phone, a demonstration by members of the Wellington" Fire Brigade, a display of .machines in. flight by -.the.-"Model Aeroplane Socioty, a demonstration by volunteer signallers in fighting- order, etc. A bucking car caused much amusement. Each of the aunts and uncles gave final messages to the children of the "Army," notably Uncle. Toby, who urgod the children to aim .at becoming . good men and wbmeh, to help where possible, and, above all, to keep smil» ing, for although he might not be able to speak to them on the air in future, • he would be watching them with pride.
