DAY IN PARLIAMENT

GOOD PROGRESS MADE

Excellent progress was made in the House of. yesterday, when six Government Bills wero passed. They were the Scenery Preservation Amendment, the Egmon't National Park Amendment, the Orchard Tax Amendment, the Local Authorities Interest Reduction and Loans Conversion Amendment, the Boyal Society of New Zealand, and the Weights and Measures Amendment. The Moneylenders Amendment and the Co-operative Pig Marketing Companies Bills were each given a second reading, the latter being referred to the Agricultural and Stock Committee, and the former being delayed to permit the introduction, of some slight amendments, _ The Poultry-runs Eegistration Bill commenced its; Committee stage, but members were inclined to treat it lightly, those who spoke seriously on the subject being the butt for interjections of a more or less humorous nature. Before the short title was passed, the Minister in charge (the Hon. C. E. Macmillan) moved to report progress to enable the third readings of the other measures to take place. The discussion on the Bill will probably be resumed next week.
