PRACTICAL WARDROBE
A NOVEL COMPETITION
Scftith African women are obviously good shoppers, ifor the "standard of the essays in a recent competition organised by. the "Cape Times" describing how competitors would spenfl £25 on a spring wardrobe was extremely high.
The winning entry fulfilled all the conditions of the competition, and the wardrobe chosen was exceptionally practical, while careful attention had obviously ■ been given to a colour scheme that enabled accessories to be interchanged with different outfits..
The winner had divided her wardrobe into two main sections. The first was an outfit for afternoon wear consisting of a light grey summer coat to bo worn with a tartan silk afternoon frock, a grey hat, grey handbag, and shoes and three pairs of grey silk stockings. Tho second section consisted of office or morning wear, chosen so that it would also incorporate sports clothes. This consisted of a gingham frock, for morning and beach wear, a white frock with a blue cape that could be used, without the cape, as a tennis frock, a pink spun silk frock for both formal and informal wear, a white skirt to be worn with a light jumper or with an aertex shirt, and a little pink sports coat to be worn.with the skirt or over the pink or white frocks. Accessories for all these outfits were a pair of white sandalo, a white handbag, a white hat, and three pairs of beige stockings.
This very adequate outfit came well within the. limit of £25, and for tho remaining money the winner chose a pair of new evening shoes to brighten up her old evening frocks.
