SAIPAN AERODROME
USE AS ADVANCE BASE
JAPAN AND HOSTILE FLEET
LONDON, November 6,
Mr. Hector By water, in the "Daily Telegraph," says- that the official announcement that Japan has decided to construct an aerodrome at Saipan with the object of studying atmospheric reactions must raise the question of the administration of the Marianno Islands. The islands constitute a scries of advanced bases from which Japan could harass a hostile fleet crossing the Pacific. Saipan owes its importance to its proximity .to Guamj- the principal advanced post for the American fleet'- in the event of complications- in the Far East, so an aerodrome at Saipan, which would be useful to military aircraft, is bound to be criticised in America.
