WEATHER IMPROVING

A COOL CHANCE

With the departure eastward of the recent- depression and the approach of a moderate anticyclone, the weather this morning was a great improvement on yesterday's effort. According to the forecast issued at noon today this improvement is likely to be maintained. Except for some scattered showers in far northern districts at first, the weather as a whole is likely to be fair to fine. Tonight will be cold and inland frosts may be expected,. but milder condition's should prevail tomorrow. Winds will be moderate to strong southcrlies, gradually decreasing in force. >' There was' further, rain yesterday and last night,in many parts of the Dominion, and' by the evening the southerly-yhad "extended, all over the country. The wind freshened considerably during the night and the weather became considerably colder. The weather was unsettled and showery, with some thunder in the morning. Some showers fell in Wellington early ■yesterday morning, but the weather cleared during the middle part of the day. . Just before 3 p.m. the light northerly wind gave place to a southerly which5 brought with it heavy rain which fell until about 5.30 p.m.- The total fall was 29 points. During the day 5.5 hours of bright sunshine were recorded. Christchurch had'a day of continuous rain, with a south-westerly wind, which reached gale force during the afternoon". Exactly one inch of rain fell altogether. Rain fell in Dunedin yesterday morning, but conditions improved during the afternoon and there were sonic periods of sunshine.
