APPRENTICES' HEAT
IMPORTANCE SUCCESSFUL
The Apprentices' Handicap, without spur or whip, was a closely-contested race', with the well-bred Importance shaking off challenges near the finish and going away again to score by a length from Flower and High Tor. _ Importance, who was ridden by A. Kussell, winner of the event on.Argentic last year, was first out, and although Bright Shade, Silver Brier, and Some Shamble soon raced ahead of her, she was never far behind them. In'the straight' she
quickly, drove up past the leaders, with Flower coming through on the fence and High Tor along tho outer. Flower looked like reaching her, but the Treiitham mare did not see her effort through, and Importance finally won quite comfortably. The winner is a four-year-old mare^by Agrion from the Demosthenes mare Egotism, so that she is a a half-sister to Pride, Jaloux, etc. She was bought by her present owner, Mr. B. P. Spiers, at the Greenwood dispersal sale twelve months ago for 70 guineas, and it was her third success to date. Flower and High.Tor were the'best of the others, v' separated only by a neck. Flower's was a useful performance, as she was last away. Walton Park (finishing fast), Silver Brier,' High Rank, and Some Shamble were not far behind the placed horses.
