KEEN COMPETITION

ST. JOHN AMBULANCE TESTS

Many people interested in the work of the St. John Ambulance Association were present at the district first-aid and nursing competitions held in the Drill Hall, Buckle Street, on Saturday.

Among those present were Messrs. H. H. 1 Seed'and A. O. Richardson, ex-assist-ant commissioners. Mr. F. W. Ward, assistant commissioner for Wellington district, presided. The competition between district nursing divisions for the Rhodes Challenge Rose Bowl revealed the high standard of efficiency existing in these organisations. Teams of four sisters, or of three and one lady ambulance officer, carried out first-aid work, lifting and carrying, placing the patient in bed, and van ous stages in home nursing with commendable precision. The Wellington South division gained a well-earned victory in this section. ' / Keen competition was also seen in the H. H. Seed Challenge Cup, between squads of four bearers representing district ambulance corps. The work in this section consisted of first-aid and transport, stretchers being used. Time was a deciding factor, as the competition took the form of a fifty yards sprint to the patient, the rendering of first aid, and the removal of the patient, on a stretcher, to'the startingpoint over obstacles. The performance of the Masterton Ambulance Division squad was particularly-efficient. In the competition for the Sandham trophy, in which squads of three from ambulance or nursing divisions took part, Masterton was again successful. Time was again important, and the team-work of the winning squad was outstanding. The Jessie Moorhouse Memorial Shield, for competition between squads of three from the various nursing divisions, attracted a large entry. Karori Nursing Division iton thisl event with a speedy and efficient display of first-aid work. Two squads from the Y.W.C.A. Nursing Division were successful in winning the Taurima .Challenge Clip. This competition requires each of the two squads entered by a division to render first aid to two persons injured in ,a street accident. ■ In the Izard Memorial Shield, a contest between teams of four from district ambulance br nursingj division, the first three places were' occupied by nursing division teams.; Lower Hutt division gained first place. , The concluding two events, the Barltrqp Rose Bowl-and the Robiesou First-Aid Trophy, were both individual tests, open to members of nursing divisions. Miss Williams, of the-Wellington division, won the bowl, and Miss Redgrave, of the Brooklyn .division, the trophy. DETAILED RESULTS.
