A WIN FOR INSTITUTE

Showing an almost entire lack of the confidence necessary for good batting, University failed badly when makinz their reply to Institute's score of 161-on the No. 2 wicket at the Basin Reserve. , Their innings lasted two hours and produced only 123 runs, giving Institute a win on the first innings by 38 runs. Taken as a whole, the cricket in this match was of poor standard with few relieving features. The first business of the afternoon was to complete Institute's innings, and the end came when Trieklebank made Prince his fifth victim for the match after Fortune had scored three runs. . Vjetmeyer, who has returned to the city after a year's absence, was Blandford's partner for the opening of University's innings, but they were soon separated. Wickets continued to. fall at brief intervals until six were down for 52 runs, more than half of which had been scored- by Paeey. Tripe and Stevens then became associated in the best" partnership of the day, adding 34 runs, but after Tripe had been disposed of no one could Etay with Stevens for any length of time. The latter carried his bat for 37, iucluded in which were four 4's. Most of the University batsmen were in difficulties when facing Prince, showing no desire to step out and cover up his slows, and be took four wickets cheaply. With the result of the match decided, Institute had another innings, which was1 in the nature of batting practice. Duffy again scored well, bis total of 46 including five 4's, but the best display of the match was provided by Prince, who put on the runs very quickly. He sent the ball to the boundary eleven times.
