OLD BOYS AND KILBIRNIE

On a bumpy wicket that had not fully recovered from the pounding it received the previous Saturday, the Old Boys' bowlers easily disposed of Kilbirnie's bats7nen at the Kilbirnie Park and scored a comfortable first innings win.

When play commenced at 2.5 p.m. Old Boys were batting with the score at 187 for eight wickets. The not out batsmen were R. Lamason, with 15 to his credit, and Duncan, who had^not previously had a strike. The former was not dismissed until the cud of the innings and made 26, while Duncan and Prince, who followed him, bagged 17 and 3 respectively before being sent back to the pavilion by Crook's fast bowling. The innings closed at dboufc 2.35 p.m. for a total of 220 runs.

Crook was by far the most successful of Kilbirnie's bowlers, taking six for 84.

In reply, to Old Boys' 220, Kilbirnie could score only 143, their batsmen failing miserably to collect the runs. The innings started ominously. Hepburn and Wrigley were the opening pair, and the former returned Parsloe's first ball to the bowler and was caught out without having opened his account. In contrast to the scoring methods of Wrigley, who took 70 minutes to snatch a bare dozen ruus, the following pair, Ward and Bilby, continued in a hard-hitting partnership that was the most profitable of the innings, the two scoring 28 and 33 respectively. Bilby's 33 was top score. Keen fielding and bowling sent batsman after batsman back to the pavilion while the score crept very slowly up, and it was left to Wilson, the tenth man in, to make a gallant stand for 23 runs. The innings began at 2.46 "p.m. and ended at 5.3 p.m.

James was an absentee from the Old Boys' eleven, but his place behind the wickets was successfully taken by Prince.

Old Boys employed only four bowlers to rout the Kilbirnie eleven. They were Browne,.Duncan, J. Lamason, and Parsloe, and all except Parsloe met with considerable success. The best figures were recorded by the youthful Browne, with four wickets for 48. He also was conspicuous for good fielding. ' In the hour before gtumps were drawn Old Boys took a second strike, and in carefree fashion knocked up 104 for the loss of two wickets. Details:— OLD BOYS. First" Innings.
