Further yacht club races to select nominees for ""the, Wellington Sanders Cup trials were held over-the weekend. The Evans Bay Yacht and Motor-boat "Club had contests on Saturday afternoon and yesterday, morning,- and the Royal- Port Nicholson Yacht Club yesterday morning and' again; in the: afternoon.
The Evans Bay Club trial on Saturday afternoon started from the clubhouse and finished off the Clyde Quay Wharf. There ware three competitors—Betty (P. Harlen mi charge), Kitty (W. Sharp), and Idono (F.. Harlen). The Betty got the beßt statt, and put up a very good performance in the light weather. She was well handled'and was kept moving all the time.: She arrived at the Coromandel buoy.approximately smin ahead of the Idono. The Kitty apparently got into some'light patches near Balena Bay. On the run down to Clyde Quay the Betty increased her lead very slightly from the Idono, and finished an easy first. Light weather also prevailed for the trial yesterday morning. In this contest the Kitty was sailed by P. Harlen, the Betty by W. Sharp, and the Idono by F. Harlen.. The course comprised a run before the wind to Jerningham beacon, a lead across to Eraser's Rock, and a beat back to the Evans Bay Clubhouse. The Kitty and the Idono gave a very level performance on the run down. The Kitty rounded Jerningham slightly in the lead, with the Betty last. On the lead across to! Eraser's Rock the Kiity increased her , advantage by about lmin, but on rounding up failed to maintain her position. The trial was eventually won by the Betty by a fairly narrow margin, with the Idono (as a result of a clever manoeuvre) again second, and the Kitty a very close third. It is proposed to hold another trial on Thursday at 6 p.m. if the weather is suitable. R.P.N.Y.C. TRIALS. Only two boats, the Lavina and the Sue-lem, competed in the R.P.N.Y.C. trials. In the morning the Lavina won by l%min, although at one stage the Suelem nearly caught her.' The TJavina won again in the afternoon _by about half a minute, after an exciting finish. Nigel Blair was in charge of the Lavina, and "Boy" White sailed the Sue-lem. The boats were followed by Mr. Arthur Holmes's launch Vagabond.
