A LIVELY CARGO

Some amusement for bystanders and not a little consternation for those who were .doing the heavy work was caused shortly after noon today at the Queen's "Wharf when seven Shetland ponies" were loaded on to the Nelson ferry steamer Kaitoa. The ponies wero' a consignment from Barber and Company's farm at Himatangi to a Nelson buyer, and none of them seemed particularly keen to take up sea travelling. Some slight difficulty was experienced in manoeuvring the animals into boxes so that they could bo lifted aboard the vessel, and a few lively moments wero spent in avoiding one pony which proved somewhat fractious. Dux-ing the scuffle one of the labourers was laid out for a period, but with the united efforts of three men the animal was heaved into the box.
