■ An'immediate start with the designing «f the proposed1 ■ woodpulp and paper mills to be erected in the Bay of Plenty' district by Timberlands Woodpulp Limited, is to be made by De Guerc and Worley Limited, consulting engineers, of Auckland. For this purpose Mr. L. A. De Gnere, whose home is in .Wisconsin, United States, arrived by the Monterey yesterday. ■~ , :

Mr. D>e Guere, who has had wide experience in the engineering design of woodpulp and paper mills in. the United States and Canada, said it was intended to call tonders for the Bay of Plenty millsvas soon as the plans were far enough advanced, in? about ten months'time. The. mills would bo able to-produce the various articles cheaper than the cost of similar imported articles plus duties. . The plant would have a capacity for about 30,000 tons of paper and fibre board a year. All the commoner types of paper would bo made, with the ex-. iception of news print, although the latI ter would be made in the course of I time. The paper would embrace a wide variety of the: course grades and also •bleached products • for the higher grades. Bimu, tawa, and pinus insignis would be used. About^ 350 hands would be employed in the mills. Mr. De Guere said that the" company owned an area of Native forest land in the Eaugitaiki Valloy. Ho displayed a number o-f paper samples made from New Zealand woods/in the Forest Products Laboratory,: Madison, United States. , ..".'• .
