MAKING WAY FOR MEN

In order to replace women workers by men, the works council and management of ths big Rcemstma cigarette factory in Altona, Germany, have offered £30 to every woman employee who will become married before the end of this year and make room for a man in the factory (states a correspondent). Nearly 200 women have accepted the offer, and 60 have intimated their willingness to stop working and make room for male relatives. ■ Premiums, are to be paid to Koenigsberg housewives who have hitherto carried out their own housework, but now promise to employ maids. The maids, however, must be paid wages corresponding to the position of the family by whom they are engaged.
