FOR LYALL BAY?

FAMOUS SURF BOAT

SYDNEY'S "BLUEBOTTLE"

As an, important part of its equipment, for doing duty..at Lyall Bay the Maranui Surf and Life-saving Club has a boat. In this respect the Lyall Bay Surf Club is not yet in line, though its members, like those of the other clufy form an efficient patrol... However,; if is understood that the Lyall "Bay Club has been seriously considering the. .question -qf acquiring a boat of the latest design for use in the surf, and, accord-' ing to a report, some effort is being made to secure one of the most notfed of Sydney's surf boats. If the efrort is successful it will bo due mainly to the fact that one of Sj'dncy's bestknown surf men, Mr. H. Evans, since transferring to Wellington has thrown in his lot with the Lyall Bay Club. On leaving Sydney Mr. Evans parted company with a trusty friend in the famous surf boat, "Bluebottle," and it is reported from Sydney that the Bluebottle" may wind up her career in-Now Zealand if the North Steyne Club, can bo persuaded to part with her. North Steyne's famous erstwhile sweep hand, H. Evans, is anxious (the report states) to have the boat sent to Lyall Bay, New Zealand, where he is chief instructor of the local surf club. If. the "Bluebottle," which is owned by North Steyne, does go to New Zealandy, Evans.,will renew his acquaintance with a trusty friend. He has steered her to on so many occasions that he must have almost forgotten the number. It is reported also that yet another order for surf life-saving gear has been received in Sydney from overseas. The latest conies from the Opotiki Surf Club. New Zealand, which has written to the S.L.S. Association for a reel, line, and belt.
