UNREST CONTINUES
JEWS BARRED LANDING
(Received November 1, 10 a.m.) \ JERUSALEM, October 31. ' Martial law has beeni proclaimed throughout Palestine. At Jerusalem sniping continued, all j night long, and caused the police to ; return, the fire. There were no casualties. The streets at dawn were found to be strewn with nails to impede mili« ' tary motor-lorries. The port of Jaffa is idle. Owing to the prevailing tension ceremonial-was dispensed with in connection with the official opening of the magnificent new; harbour at Haifa constructed by Brit« ish enterprise at a cost of £1,250,000, Porters struck at Haifa, and a detaeln ment of British troops has been dig« patched. A steamer carrying 500 Jewish immigrants was warned back from Port Saidy where permission to land was refused. Three of the Arabs who were wounded in the rioting have died. A deputation of veiled Moslem women waited on the High Commis« sioner demanding the release of Arab] , notables.
