SMART TRIP ACROSS TASMAN
The Wauijanella, which left Wellington last Thursday between 12.5 and 12.10 p.m. for Sydney, arrived there at 12.15 p.m. yesterday. Conditions in the Tasman could not have been particularly suitable ior the making of a fast voyage, as the Maunganui, which arrived here this morning from Sydney, had an unpleasant trip most of the way, meeting strong winds and seas, aocompanied by rain squalls. Last June_ the Wanganefla made a still faster trip lroin Wellington to Sydney. She left here late in the afternoon of June 8, after being held up for a considerable time while the police made a search for silver, nod reached Sydney in about two days twentytwo hours. The record from Wellington to Sydney is 67 hours 31 minutes, which was established by the Monowai. Her average speed was 18.23 knots. The Monowai also holds the Sydney-Wellington record—<s3 hours 10 minutes, her average speed being 19.5 knots. The Sydney to Wellington record was made in March of this year.
