SYNOPSIS OF LAST 48 HOURS. During Saturday night and Sunday a depression In the northern part of which a cyclono had developed, rapidly crossed the Dominion. Strong northerly winds blew on Saturday, but a southerly change had reached the extreme south by 4 p.m., and extended over the country during tho following twenty-four "hours. Gale force wae again peached In tho north, but in tho south the wind was not so strong -as the northerly had been. The depression brought general rain with some heavy falls In the Southern Alps and the Auckland Province. A fresh depression Is followlDK rapidly on that mentioned, and winds over the South Island have already returned to .the north, and rain la commencing again iv Westland and the far south.
