' On the occasion of the Autumn Fa-ti, 'which was held in Vienna, from September 3 to 10, a big exhibition was opened at the Kotunde Buildings in the Prater, 1.0 celebrate the 250 th anniversary of the Vienna Cafe. When the Turks retreated after the siege of Vienna in 1683 they left behind them several himflred ba.gs of coffee —a commodity ■which was then unknown to the Viennese. A Pole named Kolschitsky wag given this coffee in recognition of his services a« a spy during the war. This snan has attained immortality by opening the first cafe in- Vienna. Tho per-fectly-preserved kitchen of Kolschitsky's first cafe, "To the Blue Bottle," a. specimen of an up-to-date cafe, with all the technical achievements of modernity, and all industrial productions connected with cafes, was shown at the exhibition.
