| The death took placo last weekend at his residence, Kilbirnie, of Mr. Benjamin F. Marsh, who cape to Wellington over forty years ago, and was for many years associated with the firm of A. Hobday, organ builder. The late Mr. Marsh was an expert in this class of work, and took part iii the building of the organs in most of the churches in .Wellington City and district. He was a member of the Antipodean Lodge of Oddfellows. Tho late Mr. Marsh is survived by his widow, three daughters —Mrs. E. Astill, Mrs. P. Curgenven, and Miss Marsh —and one sou, Mr. II1. Marsh, of Sydney. Tho funeral took place on Monday last, the interment being at Karori Cemetery. Tho Eov. J. 11. Sykes officiated at tho graveside. : Captain J. It. ' Middleton, D.5.0., director of Naval Reserves in New Zealand, will retire from that position next month, and will be relieved by Captain Edwin G. Morris, K.N. (retired), who will arrive from England shortly, reports tho Christchurch "Press." Captain 'Middleton'' took up his present position when tho Royal Naval Volunteer "Reserve was first established in New Zealand in 1926. He did all the early recruiting and organising, and today there are <SOO men in training, and many more have passed out with their training finished: Captain "' Middleton is now in Otago paying his final visit of inspection to the division of the reserve'there. He will arrive in Christchurch, on Monday next, and will inspect the Canterbury Division that evening. The new director, Captain Morris, has seen long service in the Navy, retiring a short while ago after serving for somo time on the China Station. Tho high esteem in which the late Mr. James Kennedy, a prominent citizen of Greymouth, and father of Messrs. M. J. and P. J. Kennedy, of the Wellington Gas Company, was held, was shown by. the large attendance at his funeral. Representatives of local bodies, not only in Greymouth, but from all parts of the West Coast, were present, besides many personal friends .of the lato : Mr. Kennedy, some of whom came from Canterbury. A special vehicle was required to bear the numerous wreaths and floral tributes. The Kt. Rev. Dr. M. Brodie, Bishop of Christchurch, was the celebrant at the Solemn Pontifical Requiem Mass at Si. Patrick's Church, and in the course of a brief but moving panegyric, said that Mr. Kennedy had taken an important part in the life of the community and of the Church in the. district, and, had rendered worthy service to his fellow citizens. While he never obtruded his faith, his own sincerity of purpose commended his_ faith and its charitable activities to his wide circle of friends and won for himself the esteemed honour of being a trusted adviser and unfailing friend of all their religious communities. Well might the late Mr. Kennedy bo numbered on the honoured roll of tho worthy and eminent Catholic laymen who had deserved the grati-. tude of the Church in this young land.
