THE STATION CONTRACT
COSTLY DELAY
TENDERER PERTURBED
(By Telegraph.) - (Special to the "Evening Post.")- • AUCKLAND, This Day. Tho delay in tho acceptance of a tender'for the. new railway station at Wellington was commented upon by the principal-of one' of the "Auckland firms wh'o'sent'in a tender.' He said that the position was very unsatisfactory. Tenders had closed on October 5, and came before the Railways Board on October; 19. '-The tenders were then referred-to the .Government. He. said that the delay would prove very costly to the successful firm, as the market was hardening for some of the material that would be necessary. This applied to plumbing requirements, metal, lines, and structural and reinforcing steel, for these materials would cost considerably ruore than the prices that were tendered on. Apart from the cost of material there was tho fact that in a big contract tenderers had a' certain amount of anxiety, as they could not tender for another contract until a decision had been made.
