TO VISIT JAPAN
AUSTRALIAN RUGBY TEAM
The Australian Universities' Rugby football team to tour Japan has been selected and will leave Sydney at the end of De-1 cember. Of seven matches to be played j on the tour, two will be against All Japan. Mr. R. 0. Martin, chairman of the council of the New South Wales Rugby Union, will be the manager of the team, and the ex-Wellingtonian and Australian Rugby representative, R. Westfield, will be the captain. The Universities of Brisbane, Sydney, | Melbourne, Adelaide,'and Perth are all represented in the team^ which is as f blocks: R. Westfield (Sydney), full-back, captain; D. Burfitt (Sydney), winger; J. 0. :F. Minnis (Queensland), winger; D. O'Connor (Adelaide),- wing or centre; R. W.; Hayes (Queensland), centre or wing; P. Clarke (Queensland), centre; F. R. Vincent (Queensland), centre; J. W. Evans (Queensland), five-eighth; H.'Rees (Sydney), five-eighth; A. M. Barron (Sydney), half-back; E. S. Rogers (Sydney), utility back. .. Forwards: F. C. McWilliam* vice-cap-tain, R. Duval, R. Mackey (Sydney), R. P. Cutmore, C. T. Pearce, J. Ryan, IT. Stumm, V. W. Wilson (Queensland), H. E. W. Eyons (Adelaide), T. R. B. Courtney (Melbourne), G. H. Burkctt (Perth). The preponderance of Queensland representatives is due to the number of Sydney players who were not available for tbe lour. Among the players unavailable were Q. Elias, who was captain of the team originally selected, A. K. Kennedy, R. Booth, and K. Harris (Sydney), E.Dunlop and Pearson' (Melbourne), and T. Keeble ("Sydney), who was first reserve. Westfipld,. Mackey, Clarke, and Vincent were State representatives this year,
