BEES IN THE HAIR
A NASTY EXPERIENCE
"The story of bees lodged in' the beard of a Berlin gentleman recalls to my memory the following incident of a somewhat similar kind," states a correspondent from Graz, .Austria, in an exchange. "Many years ago I was preparing to take afternoon tea in the idyllic garden of a Buckinghamshire village, when my landlady set before me a tempting dish of golden honey in the eomb, which she boasted with pride was the produce of her own beehive.
"The denizens of the hive, however, evidently resented the proceeding, and before I could spread a slice of bread and butter with the luscious comestible a hundred bees swarmed on to the tea.table with the intention of reclaiming their handiwork. In the process several bees, seeing that I had no beard, bonnet, or hat, embedded themselves in the coils of my hait, which, fortunately, was thick enough to be a protection against their infuriated stings. "To rid my head of the unwelcome visitors I had to sacrifice those coils to the barber's shears, and thus was 20 years in advanco of the fashion, for at that time bobbed and shingled heads were rarely seen."
