Whitney has definitely cancelled all proposals for a Winooka-Equipoiseraco. It is intimated that after the weight and distance: had been agreed on, the West Chester Baeing Association; de« cided" to offer a prize of 5000 dollars,' wh'ichy in rvieiY of the [fact; that the -United Hunta.-is only a modest meeting, principally-of., a social nature, was considered ' adec[uate. Australian Press learns, moreover,. that a? Mr. Whitney is the principal; stockholder in the-West : ; Chester , s Association, he virtually would provide ' the •, prize in question". ?••;•■ ■ It is now indicated that thfl Winooka xnanagement felt that a-. 25,000-dollar purse derived from gate receipts should fee offered. The United Hunts executive felt that this was beyond its. means.
