PRIVATE MEMBERS' BILLS

-> The whole of yesterday'in .the House pf Eepresontatives was devoted to private members' Bills,; eleven of wliich appeared on the Order Paper'for second reading. The entire morning and half the afternoon was devoted to the discussion of the .National Credits and Currency Bill, sponsored by Mr. H. G. \Bl Mason (Labour, Auckland Suburbs). Tho.second reading- was defeated by 37 votes to 27. „} The Gaming Amendment Bill, tho second reading of which was moved by Mr. E. F. Healy (Government, Wairau), provided a bright discussion, but the Bill was talked out, tho debate being in progress when the House adjourned. Tho Motor-cab 3 Bill (Mr. Mason), and the Workers' Compensation Amendnient Bill were Tead a second time pro forma and Teferred' to the Labour Bills Committee. The latter measure, which was introduced by tho late Mr. H. E. Holland, is now in charge of Mr. W. E. Parry (Labour, Auckland Central). The Orders in Council Confirmation Bill (the Bey. C. Carr, Labour, Timaru) and the Fire Insurance Companies Liability Bill (Mr. A. M. Samuel, Government, Thames), were read a second time pro forma and referred to tho Statutes Bevision Committee. The House adjourned at 5.30 p.m. till 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
