SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS. Yesterday an unusual type of ■ depression crossed the Dominion, .deepening rapidly as it moved eastward. Strong north to west winds predominated at first from Canterbury arid Westland northwards, but during the day .« southerly change advanced from tlie south, and by this morning had covered most of th< country. There were scattered rains yesterdaj at various places, but during the night almost general rain was' recorded.
