BEER NOT "HOLDING ITS OWN"
"Miss . Nelle, Scanlan's statement that 'beer is holding its own' as a beverage in Great Britainie not correct (writes Mr. J. Malton Murray). Statistics show that compared with the year- 1913 the consumption of beer today is .only ,a little over 54 per cent, of what it was then. Further striking evidence is provided by Sir Edgar Sanders in a speech at a recent meeting of the Brewers' Society, of which he -is director." Mr. Murray quotes extracts from the speech in which Sir, Edgar proposed measures to encourage beerdrinking among the younger men.
