REASONS FOR CENTRAL BANK
. i (To'th« Editor.) Sir,—l notice in'your columns that "Retired Banker" cannot ■ find anything in Mr.' Hislop's letter to state in particular terms what.the., benefits (if any) of the proposed Central- -Bank will be to ; the people of- this- Dominion^ and agree with him that so far we have had nothing' but generalities from any source. I with others- fear that our Parliamentary leaders are not>coming out into the open? in this and other matters.' • , . ■-Lord' Salyerseni in reviewing this wellfavoured country after hig recent visit, was impressed by our standard of buildings, etc. (Auckland railway station, Government workshops, etc.), and well asked had we not, gone ahead somewhat too fast for our population, and ihat'we also had an exaggerated idea of a standard of living. If I remember rightly thinkers in Ameriqa, Have asked the same thing, and said that.our sine would find us out when we reached a time like the present. It seems to me that the rush to found a central bank will be one of the 6ins that will find us out.—l am, etc., A SON OF PIONEEES.
