UNIVERSITY; CLUB

The annual meeting of the Victoria College Amateur Athletic Club was held recently. .Professor Hunter was, in the chair, and there was an. excellent attendance of members, including many from Weir Hostel. It is evident that the hostel is to play an important parff in the future of the club. ' ' It was announced that'with a view to increasing interest in training operations, the old members of the-club are to present a cup for presentation to the member gaining most points in the weekly club meetings held during the season. . Profeseor Hunter was elected ■ president, and -Mr. E. C. Morpeth secretary. Mr. J. -Bennell is treasurer, and Mr. S. G. Ende club captain. The committee ie Messrs. F. H. and J. B. Stephenson, J. N\ Good&on, and C. Redwood. Mr. C. B. Allan is deputy club captain and coach. Training operations for the forthcoming season were discussed, and it is probable that . the ■ green singlets will be seen more in-open competition this season. At the conclusion of the meeting Mr. Hi ; McCormick; a vice-president of the club, and for many years club captain, gave a short address, stressing : the importance of racing in developing athletes, and'urging also that university men give what assistance they can on the administrative' side when "active' running ceases. The first1 training evening of the'club is to be held next month, immediately the. university examinations have been completed.
