SKILLED WORKERS
SHORTAGE IN FACTORIES
TRAINING OF LEARNERS
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evenina Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. The employment sub-committee of the Vocational Guidance Committee reports:— "Many factories are working at full pressure and are now suffering from a shortage of skilled women workers, principally in the clothing trade. A shortage of experienced workers was forecasted by the committee two years ago, and it is entirely the fault of,those employers who neglect to engage an adequate number of learners." The seriousness of the prospective shortage of skilled operatives in the event of trade recovery was mentioned by the president of the Manufacturers' Association. "The committee is continually urging employers to engage and train learners for future needs. As many of those adults now away from their trades will not return to their former occupations, the pressure of unemployment amongst both boys and girls is easing, and several employers are now taking on more men."
