AUSTRALIAN INCREASE
The eighth annual rcpoi-t of the Austnilian Dairy Produce Control Board for the year ended June 30, 1933, shows a further development 'in the volume of oversea trade in Australian butter. During the year, 100,546 tons of butter were exported from Australia, which exceeded all previous records, and represented an increase of 9460 tons over the exports in 1931-32. The exports of cheese were 5411 tons, which was 2033 tons in excess of shipments' for the previous year. < Of the butter exported. 93,382 tons were shipped to the United Kingdom and 7164 tons to other destinations. Great Britain also provided a market for 93 per cent, of .Australia's surplus cheese. The prices realised for Australian butter continued to ■ fall during the year, and the average weekly price realised ■ for choicest quality salted butter was 86s 6d a cwt, as compared with 104s &1 a cwt during 1031-32. This reduction in price is not attributed to any falling off in the quality of the butter exported, but chiefly to the very heavy arrivals from Australia. New Zealand, and foreign countries. With a view to avoiding a glut of ■Dominion butter on the London market, the board decided last November to regulate shipments to the United Kingdom over a period of several weeks'. "The board hns made further arrangements to ensure a reduction in the. rates of bolh freight and insurance during the 1933-34 season.
