A "STUDY CIBCLE"

MOVEMENT IN COALITION

An interesting development has recently taken place within the Government ranks which, although involving no challenge to the Ministry, has some political significance. Several members of the Coalition Party have formed a group for the purpose of closely examining all the Government's legislative proposals and consulting with* Ministers on points on which they consider more information is required. The members concerned in the movement are not in any way hostile to' the Government, but are anxious rather to assist the Government in its task. For some time past there has been a feeling that the explanations o* legislation given in the party caucuses are not sufficient to enable members to form a reasoned judgment, and in consequence several members have made it a practice to hold meetings after the caucuses and make a closer examination of the legislation, following up the examination with consultations with Ministers. Prominent in the group are Mr. A. E. Ansell (Chalmers), F. Lye (Waikato), A. E. Jull (Waipawa), J. Hargest (Invereargill), and AY. J. Broadfoot (Waitomo).
