PIGEON RACING
The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society's most recent weekly race was held over a 134 miles airline from Waiouru. The pigeons were liberated by the stationmaster at 10.30 a.m., and the first birds were clocked in at 1.6 p.m., putting up the splendid ■ velocity of over 1500 yards per minute. The following are the first eight placings:—C. .Webster and Son's Phar Lap, 1503.8 yds per minute, 1; B. Clements's Never Traps, 1492.9yd5, 2; A. ,Clements's Black Prince, 1491.6yd5, 3; A. Egginton's Good Wing, 1490.3yd5, 4; Gannell and Henderson's Ambition, 1486.4yd5, 5; J. Perrett's Consistent, 1480.7yd5, 6; ,C. Barnes's Blue Peter, 1480 yds, 7; F. Conper and Son's Eclipse, 1454.9yd5, 8. The South Island races commence tomorrow with a flock race from Culverden, 140 miles, and continue in stages right down to Invercargill.
