BASILICA IN HILL STREET

For the past two months the Basilica of the Saercd Heart, in Hill Street,«has been in tho hands of renovators, and extensive repairs have been dono in side and outside the handsome building. The work is still proceeding, and it is anticipated that it wil not be completed for another two weeks or moro. Tho Basilica was erected over thirty years ago, and tho present renovation work is the first that has been carried out on a large scale in that period. Father P. J. Smyth, speaking to a "Post" representative this rnorning, stated that tho stone facings had crumbled under the influenco of weather conditions. These had now been treated with a special preparation, and it was expected that the stone would last better. Other parts of tha building, said Father Smyth, had been, found on examination to bo badly in' need of tepairs, and for the past two months a thorough overhaul bad been proceeding. . ■ . . .. The inside of the Basilica, including the richly ornamental ceiling, has been redecorated, and tho heavy frames of the several handsome paintings which adorn tho walls have been regilded.
