MOTOR-SHIP FAVOURED
Since the beginning of this year, according to "The Motor Ship," the tonnage of all .ships ordered, 'excluding those under 1000 • tons gross, amounts to 329,000 tons gross, comprising motor ships of 242,000 tons, or 74 per cent., and steamers of only 87,000 tons.
Other facts showing the' increasing adoption.of oil-engined vessels. At the present time, 67.5 per cent, of tho total tonnage building throughout the world ia to be propelled by internal-combus-tion ' machinery. The tonnago of Bteamers laid up in England is twentyfive times as great as that of motor 'ships, and during the past year steamer tonnage has'declined by over 1,900,000 tons gross, whilst motor tonnage has increased by 162,000 tons gross.
During !the past ton years the mercantile fleet of Sweden, and Denmark has increased by nearly two and a half million tons gross. Eightyseven per cent; of this figure comprises motor-vessels.
