A NEAT JUMPER

■This week directions are given for making a jumper with turn-down collar, and next week instructions will be given for makii the accompanying beret in Angora wool. Measurement.—To fit 34 to 36-inch bust" measurement. Materials.—Three 2oz balls artificial silk, one pair No. 13 steel needles, on pair No. 11 needles, one pearl button. j The Back.—Cast 130 stitches on to No. 13 needles and work in rib of knit 1, purl 1, for four inches. Change to No. 11 needles, and continue in garter atitcli until work measures 11

inches from the beginning. Now commence to shape for armholcs. Cast off 0 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows, and knit 2 together at each end of the next and every alternate i row six times. Continue without shap-! iug until the armhole measures 8 inches. , Shape for shoulders as follows: Cast off 6 stitches at the beginning of each row 6 times; you will then have 34 stitches left for the neck. Cast these off looseiy. The Front.—Knit exactly the same as for the bf^.k until armhole measures 3 inches. How to commence the neck opening: Knit halfway across (53 stitches), then slip these stitches on to a stitch holder,' and continue to, work on tho remaining 53 stitches without shaping for 2 inches. Cast off 12 stitches at the neck edge and knit 2 together in the next and every alternate row until 36 stitches remain. Continue without shaping until armhole measures 81 inchesShape shoulder by casting off six stiches at annhole edge iv. the next and every alternate row until all the stitches have been cast off. Kettirn to other half, join on silk at neck edge, and knit to directions given for tho first half. -. Sleeve. —Both sleeves arc knitted alike. With No. 13 needles, cast on 84 stitches, and work in rib. Knit 1, purl 1, for 1J inches. Change to No. 11 needles, and continue in garter stitch until work measures five inches from the beginning. Knit two together at each end of the needle in tho 'next and every following riw until 20 stitches remain. Cast off. • . Collar.—With No. 13 needles, cast on 148 stitches, and work in rib of knit 1, purl 1, for four inches. Cast off loosely. To Make Up. —Press well with damp cloth, having just pinned each piece of work to right measurements. Sew up shoulder, sleeves into jumper Sew up shoulder, sleeves, and side seams. Sew sleeves -into jumper—seam to seam. Attach collar to neck edge, and make a looj§ of chain-stitch to fasten the neck with a pearl button
