WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

FUNCTION AT TAWA FLAT

The Tawa Flat Women's Institute met recently at "Ye Okie Bull' and Bush," Tawa Flat. The tea rooms were gay with bowls of anemones, freesias, and irises. Mrs. Birt (president), who is shortly leaving the district, took the chair for the last time. The vice-president, Mrs. Turner, presented her with a bouquet of flowers, and the secretary, Mrs. Taylor, on behalf of the members, thanked her for her good work for the institute, and wished her all happiness in her new sphere. Mrs. Birt fittingly replied, giving at the same, time some of her impressions of her term of office, and guiding points for the future of the institute. Mrs. dc la Cour and Mrs. Norwood were appointed to serve- as delegates at the Otaki conference, and Mrs. Turk, ington to bo a member of the group Committee. Two demonstrations ■■were watched with great interest, Mrs. Boss showing the making of gloves and Mrs. Whet? stone th 6 making of moccasins. A vote of thanks, moved by Mrs, Turner, was heartily carried. s ; It was decided to have competitions for the best pair of moccasins; and gloves made by members ready for the November meeting. There were several useful and dainty articles in the competition '.'Best article costing less, than Is 6d," the winning entry being a supper cloth by Mrs. Taylor. Tea was served in buffet fashion by the hostesses, Mrs. Brown, Mrs.'. Bichardson, Mrs. Whiteombc, and Miss Smith. , . -' '■■■!
