September 23' of Mr. John Kirkle.v Campbell, a, native- of: Nelson, \vlio retired in 1925 after 36 years' service in. the London, office of the New Zealand1 Government. At, the time of his retire-, ment Mr. Campbell "was assistant secretary to tho High Coinmissioner;for New, Zealand. In the course of his career Mr. Campbell served under eight High Commissioners. For the, greatoc part of his time ho was in charge of the. library, where ho eanio into touch with' all vis? itors to the High Commissioner's Office, first in Victoria Street and later in tho Strand. His transfer to the Assistant; 'Secretaryship in 1919 was greatly regretted because it removed irom tho library "an officer whose. knowledge of New Zealand Acts andyregulations was unsurpassed by anyone in London. Mr. Campbell was a very well known and popular officer, arid, was considered to bo an authority on legal mattersv'iincti precedents."While in New Zealand ho was a memb'cr of tho N,elsoa Cathedral choir and was tenor soloist of the Nelson Harmonic Sociaty. . ,■■;■•
